The City of Tehran renovated Eila Hiltunen’s Palm Grove Monument

In celebration of Sibelius anniversary this year, the city of Tehran has renovated the Palm Grove monument by Eila Hiltunen in Park-e-Mellat in central Tehran. The monument was put up 40 years ago and during the years it suffered and it´s golden colour got dark. After half a year of hard work, the Monument’s broken parts were repaired and polished to its original glory.

Citizens of Tehran know the Monument by the name “the Golden Palm”. The hill, where the Monument stands, is a popular meeting place especially during summer.

The renowned Iranian sculptor Ebrahim Eskanderi was responsible for the project and the renovation was done in coordination with Jarno Peltonen, chairman of Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsens art foundation.

The Monument’s official unveiling will be held on September 12th, 2015 at 6pm. A delegation from Finland, appointed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, will take part in this festivity. Iran is also planning to issue a stamp in celebration of Eila Hiltunen.
